  •  Biography

 

 

Raymond DeBono is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Durham, South Tyneside District Hospital, the City Hospitals Sunderland and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead.

He qualified in Medicine in 1990 and after general surgical training started his Plastic Surgery training in London (Mount Vernon Hospital, Middlesex and St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery, Billericay), Preston (Royal Preston Hospital), and Durham (Shotley Bridge Hospital).

He then studied for a Higher Degree in Plastic Surgery by Research at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Durham. His thesis was in the field of skin wound healing biology with special reference to the contribution of the skin appendages to wound healing and scarring.

Mr DeBono then progressed to higher surgical training in Plastic Surgery at two well renowned Plastic Surgery Units in Scotland: Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee and the internationally well known Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit in Glasgow. During these years he developed a major interest in Aesthetic/Cosmetic Surgery and  Reconstructive  Surgery including Microsurgery.

He complemented his training with further experience in microsurgery reconstructive techniques at the Department of Plastic Surgery, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, Houston, Texas, USA. This was supported by a Travelling Fellowship awarded by the British Association of Plastic Surgeons. He has also furthered his Cosmetic Surgery training at the MD Aesthetic Surgery Centre / St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Texas Medical Centre, Texas, USA.

Mr. Debono has recently attended a fellowship in cosmetic surgery at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Centre in Dallas and at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute concentrating on facelift surgery, rhinoplasty and body contouring.

Mr DeBono has a special clinical interest in: facial rejuvenation (browlift, facelift, necklift), cosmetic breast surgery and body contouring. His research interests include: Skin wound healing biology including the contribution of skin appendages to wound healing and stem cells and their potential role in scar less healing.
